John Coté has been a guitarist and songwriter all of his adult life. His lyrical playing style has garnered him a loyal audience in the local Vancouver coffee shop scene where he has performed for many years.
In this early musical project, Rendez-Vous, John writes of love and life, of new beginnings and inevitable endings, in a style, which is at once, highly introspective and readily engaging. There is joy and sadness in the music, anticipation and regret, as each musical moment is lived for its own sake, without regret about the past nor expectation towards the future.
Dancing with Talia easily captures the joyful energy and expectation of intimate encounter while reminding us of the ever ephemeral nature of such moments. Glory Days takes a look at the art of seduction through the narrowing lens of nostalgia and memory. And the title track Rendez-Vous reflects on the vulnerability and need of love given and taken as gift without further expectation of return.
Rendez-Vous, the CD, is a gentle musical offering born of the vulnerability of the composer whose natural reluctance and hesitation are the signs of deeply-felt life experience and engagement with the world and others.
